Hillsborough County has enjoyed robust population growth and its diversity has fostered an open and energetic lifestyle for its residents. Hillsborough County consists of three municipalities, the cities of Tampa, Plant City, and Temple Terrace, and the balance is the area known as “Unincorporated Hillsborough County."
According to the most recent U.S. Census Bureau estimates of city demographics, Hillsborough’s 2009 population of 1.20 million ranks it as the 32nd largest county in the nation. In the period from 2000 to 2009, a strong influx of new residents boosted the area’s population by 20 percent. Based on population projections for Tampa FL demographics by the University of Florida’s Bureau of Economic and Business Research, Hillsborough County will expand to 1.49 million by the year 2025 and 1.67 million by 2035.
