Tampa Bay History Center
Tampa Bay History Center
The Tampa Bay History Center, a non-proft organization located on a 2.4 acre waterfront lot near the Channelside District in downtown Tampa, was built to honor the Tampa Bay community and its heritage. It represents a successful public-private partnership with Hillsborough County, the City of Tampa, the local education community and the private sector. Within the walls of this 60,000 sq. ft museum, Tampa Bay's characters can be seen throughout 500 years of recorded history.
“The museum allows you the follow in the footsteps of the first native inhabitants, Spanish conquistadors, pioneers, sports legends and railroad tycoons. You can explore exhibits about the places and people who shaped the Tampa Bay area.”
A visitor to the Tampa Bay History Center can enjoy the following attractions:
- Map Gallery
- Theaters
- Interactive exhibits
- Events Halls
- Eclectic Museum Store
- Columbia Cafe
The Tampa Bay History Center grew out of a Historical Museum Task Force created by Hillsborough County’s Commissioners in 1986 with a mission to educate both native residents and visitors about the important history that has shaped and continues to shape the Tampa Bay area. With more than 40,000 historical items in the History Center’s collections, the museum has quickly become a destination attraction for an active tourism industry.
