Henry Plant Museum

The Henry B. Plant Museum is located in the 1891 historical Plant Hall Building, at the University of Tampa. The museum is dedicated to the history of the Plant Hall Building, which was once known as the Tampa Bay Hotel. This hotel served as a base of operations for the US military during the Spanish-American War, hosting Teddy Roosevelt and the Rough Riders. In 1972, the Tampa Bay Hotel closed and was designated as a National Historic Landmark.

With its marvelous Moorish revival architecture and minarets, luxurious furnishings, and historical displays, a visit to the restored Tampa Bay Hotel will make you feel as if you stepped back into the Victorian era. Lively exhibitions, events, and tours at the Henry B. Plant Museum, keep the Tampa Bay Hotel and Victorian era alive.

This historic museum features the original furnishings of the the Tampa Bay Hotel and depicts the lifestyle of the early years of Tampa. Today, the museum's mission is to interpret the Tampa Bay Hotel at the turn of the century and the Victorian lifestyles of America's Gilded Age for people of all ages, backgrounds, and levels of interest.
