BIOLOGICS DEVELOPMENT SERVICES TO OPEN NEW LAB IN TAMPA

TAMPA, Fla. – November 5, 2012 – Biologics Development Services (BDS), announced today the development of a new scientific laboratory in Tampa. The 6,000-square foot, state-of-the-art facility, located at 5670 W. Cypress Street in the Westshore business district, is scheduled to open on January 2, 2013, creating up to 15 new jobs and $1.2 million in capital investment.

Governor Rick Scott said, “We want businesses to grow and succeed here in Florida, and that’s why I worked to cut taxes and reduce regulation to grow and create jobs.  BDS is another great example of businesses that are finding opportunities here in Florida – and we’ll continue to work hard to make sure businesses like BDS can grow and succeed in the Sunshine State.”

The company is positioned to provide large molecule bioanalytical services to pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies across the Unites States and around the globe, along with the expertise to develop unique reagents and de novo assays to further their drug development programs.

“It’s exciting that there is new investment in medical research and development taking place here in Tampa. Our growing health sciences cluster of world-class research facilities, universities, and companies is why more and more companies like BDS are choosing to call Tampa home,” said Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn. “BDS will create the jobs of the future, and help us continue to attract top talent.”

BDS also offers the distinct advantage of management by two of the industry’s most noted experts.  Under the direction of Chief Operating Officer Dr. Alan Breau and Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Carmine Lanni, BDS delivers over 50 years of experience and unparalleled excellence in bioanalytical results.  According to Lanni, the management team “looks forward to being a vibrant addition to the scientific community and participating actively in the business growth of the Tampa Bay area.”

The BDS laboratory, located near Tampa International Airport and accessible to major universities and research centers, is equipped with the latest in instrumentation and robotics, and staffed by a highly skilled team of seasoned scientists and technicians under the supervision of scientific management.

“The arrival of BDS adds to our growing reputation as a life sciences center, and highlights the strength of our existing community assets,” said Hillsborough County Commission Chairman, Ken Hagan.  “It’s a pleasure to welcome the company to Hillsborough County and support their continued success.”

State and local economic development partners, including Enterprise Florida Inc., Hillsborough County, the City of Tampa and the Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation worked together to assist in the development of the new facility.

“We appreciate the enthusiastic support we have received from agencies at the state and local level, which helped make the launch of this new laboratory a reality,” said BDS president JulieAnn Rico. “We look forward to furthering these partnerships in the future.”

“We were happy to play a role in the opening of their new facility,” said Rick Homans, president and CEO of the Tampa Hillsborough EDC. “BDS is an exciting addition to our expanding roster of medical companies, and will be a valuable asset as we continue to grow the life sciences industry in Hillsborough County.”
