President & CEO
Rick Homans is President and Chief Executive Officer of the Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation. Rick, a native of Boston, spent the last 32 years living in New Mexico where he served in the cabinet of Governor Bill Richardson, first as Secretary of Economic Development and subsequently as Secretary of Taxation and Revenue. In 2004, Rick spearheaded the development of the world’s first purpose-built commercial spaceport, Spaceport America, and recruited Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic to base its world headquarters in New Mexico. The spaceport is scheduled to open for business in 2013. During his term as Secretary of Economic Development, Rick also led development of the state’s border region with Chihuahua, opened a trade office in Tokyo, and led numerous international trade missions to Europe and Asia.
Prior to his government service, Rick served as president of a New Mexico-based publishing group that owned city magazines in Albuquerque and Santa Fe. He also founded New Mexico Business Weekly, which he sold in 2000 to American Cities Business Journals, the publisher of the Tampa Bay Business Journal. Rick is married to Jan, and they have two sons, Parker, 23, and Henry, 18.
